OUR STRATEGIC PHILOSOPHY

Most companies do not struggle because they lack ideas.

They struggle because the ideas are scattered, inconsistent, or trapped inside leadership conversations.

The founder knows the story. The team understands the work. Customers experience the value. But the market often receives only fragments.

Stone Soup’s role is to gather those fragments, identify the strategic center, and build the language and systems that allow the story to travel.

That is why the work is not simply “marketing support.”

It is clarity work.

THE PROBLEMS WE SOLVE

Unclear

Positioning

If your leadership team can't agree on your positioning, your sales team is guessing. Confused customers don't buy.

Inconsistent

Messaging

Marketing says one thing, sales says another. The brand is disjointed and  untrusted by the  market

No Strategic

Marketing Leadership

Too lean for a full-time CMO. Too ambitious to keep marketing ad-hoc. Executive-level strategy sits just out of reach.

Where We Create Clarity

Stone Soup helps growing companies clarify the story, strategy, and systems that make marketing easier to understand, easier to execute, and easier to scale. Our work is grounded in three connected disciplines: brand strategy, thought leadership, and go-to-market strategy.

Brand Strategy

Brand strategy defines what your company stands for, who it serves, how it is different, and why the market should care. It matters because clear positioning gives every message, decision, and customer interaction a stronger foundation.

Thought Leadership

Thought leadership turns your expertise, perspective, and hard-earned insight into ideas your audience can recognize, trust, and follow. It matters because buyers are drawn to companies and leaders who help them see their challenges more clearly.

GTM Strategies

Go-to-market strategy connects your positioning, audience, offer, and channels into a focused plan for reaching the right people. It matters because growth is easier to build when your story, sales motion, and marketing activity are all moving in the same direction.

HOW WE Engage

Every company needs strategic support in a different way. Stone Soup offers flexible engagement models designed to meet the moment, whether you need ongoing leadership, a focused sprint, or custom advisory support.

Fractional Marketing Leadership

Fractional leadership gives you senior marketing strategy and direction without the commitment of a full-time executive hire. It is ideal when your company needs clearer priorities, stronger execution, and experienced guidance across brand, content, marketing, and growth.

Productized

Marketing Sprints

Productized sprints are focused, structured engagements built around a specific strategic need or deliverable. They are valuable when you need to solve an important problem quickly, create usable assets, and give your team a clearer path forward.

Customized Consulting/Advisory

Custom consulting and advisory support is designed around challenges that do not fit neatly into a predefined package. It is useful when your business needs strategic thinking, outside perspective, or hands-on support across a more nuanced set of priorities.

Tools for Strategic Clarity

Strong strategy needs more than good ideas. Stone Soup uses practical tools to turn insight, positioning, messaging, and market perspective into structures your team can understand, use, and build upon.

The Clarity Stack

The Clarity Stack helps organize the essential layers of a brand, from purpose and positioning to messaging and execution. It matters because growth becomes easier when everyone understands what the company stands for, who it serves, and how the story should come through.

The Positioning Canvas

The Market Positioning Canvas helps define where your company fits in the market, what makes it different, and why that difference matters to the right audience. It is important because strong positioning gives customers, teams, and partners a clearer reason to choose you.

The Messaging Framework

The Messaging Framework turns positioning into language your company can use across sales, marketing, content, and customer conversations. It matters because consistent messaging helps every touchpoint reinforce the same clear and compelling story.

The Narrative Framework

The Narrative Flywheel connects your core point of view to the content, conversations, and proof points that build recognition over time. It is valuable because thought leadership gains strength when your ideas are repeated, reinforced, and connected back to a larger strategic narrative.

WHO WE SERVE

  • Founder-Led B2B Companies

Pre-Series A to Series B, 10–75 employees. AI/SaaS, adtech, recruitment tech, professional services. Preparing to scale but lacking a marketing foundation.

  • Professional Services Firms

Consultants, executive search firms, financial advisors. Referral-driven today, but ready to build inbound pipeline through thought leadership.

  • Post-Acquisition Brands

Navigating brand confusion after a merger or acquisition. Need to unify messaging, clarify positioning, and realign internal teams around a single narrative.

  • Marketing-Light Organizations

Growing companies ready for structured marketing but lacking the budget for a full-time CMO. They require fractional executive leadership to build foundations and oversee execution.

DAVID SHAY, FOUNDER, STONE SOUP STRATEGY

A Strategist Built for Complexity

As a “reformed” attorney turned marketing and communications strategist, I have built my career around making complex ideas easier to understand, easier to communicate, and easier to act on.

Before founding Stone Soup Strategy, I spent 10 years helping build a world-class marketing function for a fast-growing company in the digital media space. I joined as the company’s 13th employee and first dedicated marketing resource, then helped shape its positioning, messaging, brand presence, sales support, content, PR, and event strategy as the business grew to 140 employees across multiple divisions and regional offices.

That experience gave me a front-row seat to a challenge many growing companies face: as the business becomes more complex, the story becomes harder to tell. Different teams need different language. Markets shift. Buyers change. What once lived clearly in the founder’s head has to become something the whole organization can understand and use.

Stone Soup Strategy was built to help companies solve that problem. I work with founders, executives, and growing teams to clarify their positioning, strengthen their narrative, and build practical marketing systems that support growth without wasting time, budget, or energy.

IDEAS WORTH THINKING ABOUT

STRATEGIC CLARITY

Confusion Is The Silent Killer of Growth

You can't scale what you can't articulate. Here's what happens to companies that skip the positioning work — and how to fix it.

NARRATIVE IDENTITY

Your Brand Doesn't Need More Content. It Needs a Plot

The companies that grow aren't the ones with the best product. They're the ones with the clearest story. Here's how to find yours.

Why The $200K Website Didn't Work
